This research through descriptive analytical methodology seeks ways of theorizing in the field of small cities from the perspective of sustainable development. This important issue, addition to completing and promoting the diverse role in the development of urban areas and rural hinterlands, has benefited the main place in extensive studies in the national settlement networks and local area. Thus theoretic-analytic study of nature this issue, can help to improve cognitive circle on the theoretical foundations of urban studies. The results of the analysis and comparison of views shows that openions strengthening and enhancing of small cities based on the sustainable spatial development by looking at all aspects of the internal structure of small cities, compared to other approaches has special advantages; and it is ableing to that, with an emphasis on the sustainability of cities, in addition to improveing the internal structure of small cities, local conditions and regional relations and making sustainable benefit. تحلیل و تبیین دیدگاه‌های برنامه‌ریزی فضایی ضرورتی است که در کشور‌های درحال‌توسعه، به‌ویژه ایران، کمتر به آن توجه شده است؛ به این معنا که رشد سریع شهرها و ناهمگونی گسترۀ وسیعی از فضا‌های جغرافیایی این جوامع، با تعادل بنیادین در اکثر شهرها، به‌ویژه در شهر‌های بزرگ و کلان‌شهرها، همراه نبوده است. بررسی وضع موجود برنامه‌ریزان را ناگزیر کرده است که به برنامه‌ریزی و آمایش در مقیاس‌های خرد و در قالب شهر‌های کوچک توجه کنند؛ زیرا در این صورت است که می‌توان با استفاده از منابع محلی به توسعۀ پایدار فضایی دست یافت. پژوهش حاضر با استفاده از روش‌شناسی توصیفی ـ تحلیلی درصدد نظریه‌پردازی در حوزۀ مطالعات شهر‌های کوچک از منظر پیشرفت پایدار است. این امر علاوه‌براینکه به تکمیل و ارتقای بحث‌های متنوع درمورد نقش‌آفرینی آن‌ها در توسعۀ حوزۀ درون‌شهری و پسکرانۀ روستایی کمک می‌کند، در مطالعات گستردۀ شبکه‌های سکونتگاهی ملی، منطقه‌ای و محلی نیز از جایگاه ویژه‌ای برخوردار است. مطالعه و بررسی نظری و ماهیتیِ این موضوع دایرۀ شناختی و ادراکی مبانی نظری مطالعات شهری را نیز ارتقا می‌دهد. نتایج حاصل از تحلیل و مقایسۀ دیدگاه‌های مطرح‌شده نشان می‌دهد که دیدگاه تقویت و توسعۀ شهر‌های کوچک مبتنی‌بر توسعۀ فضایی پایدار به‌واسطۀ نگاه همه‌جانبه به ساختار داخلی شهر‌های کوچک، نسبت‌به سایر دیدگاه‌ها، مزیت‌های ویژه‌ای دارد و نیز توانایی دارد که با تأکید بر پایداری این شهرها، علاوه‌بر تقویت ساختار درونی آن‌ها، مناسبات و شرایط محلی و منطقه‌ای را نیز بهره‌مند و پایدار سازد. https://sspp.iranjournals.ir/article_31403_c4fa856e631d52fce97c4eb37d17bb19.pdf
