Therefore, it is important to investigate the relationship between financial development and environmental pollution. This relationship might be different for developed and developing countries due to institutional differences. For the purpose of this study, two models were estimated based on the data from the D8 and J7 member countries from 1993 to 2013. Negative linear relationship was confirmed for the J7 countries and quadratic relationship i.e. Inverse U for the D8 countries which includes Iran. In J7 countries there is an inverse relationship between financial development and environmental destruction. However, in D8 counties, in the lower level of financial development, bank loans lead to environmental pollution, while in the 39 percent financial development indicator as a cut-off point this trend is reversed. Considering that in the last 5 years this ratio has been 50 percent for Iran, financial development through the aforementioned channels contributes to the reduction of environmental pollution. توسعۀ مالی از راه کاهش هزینۀ سرمایه‌گذاری، هدایت بنگاه‌ها در به‌کارگیری فناوری‌ها و نهاده‌های سازگار با محیط زیست و کاهش اندازۀ اقتصاد زیرزمینی موجب بهبود شرایط محیط زیستی کشور می‌شود. بنابراین، بررسی چگونگی ارتباط میان توسعۀ مالی و آلودگی محیط زیستی اهمیت دارد. این ارتباط ممکن است برای کشورهای توسعه‌یافته و در حال توسعه به دلیل تفاوت‌های نهادی متفاوت باشد. در این راستا، دو مدل بر پایۀ اطلاعات بانک جهانی پیرامون دو گروه از کشورهای جی7 و دی8 برای دورۀ زمانی 1993 تا 2013 م برآورد شده‌است. برای کشورهای جی7، رابطۀ خطی منفی و برای کشورهای دی8، که ایران جزو آن‌ها است، رابطۀ درجه دوم یعنی U وارون تأیید گردید؛ یعنی در جی7 رابطه‌ای معکوس میان توسعۀ مالی و تخریب محیط زیست وجود دارد، در حالی ‌که در دی8 در سطوح پایین از توسعۀ مالی، تسهیلات اعطایی بانک‌ها به افزایش میزان انتشار آلودگی می‌انجامد ولی در اندازۀ 39 درصد برای شاخص توسعۀ مالی به عنوان نقطۀ برشی این روند معکوس می‌گردد. با توجه به اینکه بر پایۀ داده‌های بانک مرکزی ایران این نسبت در 5 سال اخیر بیش از 50 درصد بوده، توسعۀ مالی از مجراهای یادشده به کاهش آلودگی محیط زیستی کمک می‌کند https://sspp.iranjournals.ir/article_34109_11db6a59100b3e48e6aa854e126f7059.pdf
